High Quality Pre-Kinder Program

The Amigos Por Vida – Friends For Life Public Charter School will create a partnership between our Prekindergarten families, schools and our community. One of our core beliefs in APVFFLCS is “In order to prepare our next generation to become responsible citizens, we should work collaboratively with our families and community partners.” Through collaboration, APVFFLCS will actively pursue our goal of empowering families for student success.

Definitions of Family and Family Engagement - HB4

Family engagement is the mutual responsibility of families, school, and communities to build relationships to support student learning and achievement and to support family well-being and the continuous learning and development of children, families, and educators. Family engagement is fully integrated in the child’s educational experience and supports the whole child and is both culturally responsive and linguistically appropriate.

How it works

Six Components

  1. 1

    Facilitate Family-to-Family Support

APVFFLCS Parent Involvement Facilitators, campus and/or district personnel will provide parents with opportunities to participate in initiatives such as volunteering and campus PTO meetings and events.

  2. 2

Establish a Network of Community Resources

APVFFLCS partnerships with community and faith-based organizations will create a network through strategies like Campus Compassion, Legacy Community Health, and Houston Public Health - Immunization Clinics.

  3. 3

    Increase Family Participation in Decision-Making

Opportunities include Campus Compact and School Policies, District Family Engagement Surveys, School Health Advisory Committee – SHAC, monthly meetings with the principal, and parents and teachers conferences.

  4. 4

Equip Families with Tools to Enhance and Extend Learning

Informational books and pamphlets will be sent home concerning child development best practices, and parent meetings by grade level will be held every month.

  5. 5

    Evaluate Family Engagement Efforts

Feedback and suggestions will be sought from families through training input and parents feedback from Parenting Sessions. Data from EOY assessment will be used to determine the effectiveness of the High-Quality Pre-Kindergarten program.

  6. 6

Develop Staff Skills in Evidence-Based Practices

Staff will attend training in areas such as ESSA, multi-sensory approach to PK, dyslexia, balanced literacy, teaching strategies curriculum implementation, family engagement, CLI Engage Professional Development Presentations, vocabulary building, social and emotional development, and iPad etiquette.
